Summer Solstice Mantras & Rituals
The Summer Solstice marks one of the most significant shifts in the year. Always occurring at the start of the Cancer Sun Season, this time period represents new beginnings, new achievements, and any culmination toward personal victory.
After the solstice, the sun's power starts to decrease, and the days gradually shorten as we head toward the darker half of the year.
It's an opportunity to rejuvenate and reconnect to our purpose and the path it will take to get there.
I love creating solstice rituals where we get to linger in the power of the longest, lightest day of the year.
Call it a guilty pleasure, but I believe these energetic rays deserve to be soaked up as much as humanly possible.
The 2023 Summer Solstice will occur on June 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. The word Solstice is made of two parts, 'Sol' (sun) and 'systre' (standing still.)
On the day when the sun stands still in the sky, many ancient traditions – from the Aztecs to the Druids – gathered to celebrate the height of the sun's power. This time of midsummer new beginnings draws on our ability to manifest by acknowledging the abundance that could be and by submitting to the present.
We can do this in many ways, but my favorite is through fire as well as having an outdoor meal. After dinner out on the back porch, I will sit in front of my outdoor fire pit and draw my attention to the flames as I think of all that I have and am grateful for. I will also ask Spirit to guide me towards abundance in the future by picturing all that is possible. I let myself linger here as long as needed. I guess this is my attempt at “standing within the light,” so I try and swim in any feelings or resonance during my time next to the fire.
In the past, I've written lists of what I would like to release and thrown this into the fire as a way of purifying my field. This can easily be done with a beautiful candle in the home as well, you don’t have to go full bonfire mode, and it's just perfect to keep it simple. The key is to turn inward and find the nourishment we need in order to keep our systems fed and steadfast on the path of growth.
And speaking of swimming, should you choose to involve water in your Solstice ritual, you can use this element to manifest desires as well. This day commemorates Cancer Sun Season (June 22- July 21), and this water sign is known for being nurturing, compassionate and generous. Take a dip in any body of water or take a soothing bath with Rose Quartz, Clear Quartz, Amethyst, or Celeste as your companion. Turn your thoughts within as you bathe and honor your journey so far, it’s more than okay to relish and be grateful for what once was. This sets the stage for more abundance and new gorgeous growth in the future.
Here are some great mantras to repeat as part of your ritual:
I am blessed beyond measure as I embark on both the seen and unseen before me.
I am primed to receive and remain grateful for what once was.
I anticipate all the good as I remain rooted in my intuition and discern what is for me and what must go.
